This is the opportunity for a group of teenage girls to get an authentic expedition experience in a beautiful, wild part of England (either the Peak District, Dartmoor or the Lake District, to be confirmed). Over 4 days and three nights we shall journey through stunning and varied landscape: hill and wood, river and lake. We shall be entirely self-sufficient; for many this can be a new and very empowering experience. We shall carry our own food, find and purify our water, navigate ourselves through the landscape, and sleep in wild camps rather than those dreadfully civilised campsites, so we can truly get a feeling of escape. A tough but manageable physical and mental challenge with plenty of inspiration and support, this immersive trip will help develop self-reliance, self-organisation, and what it means to be part of an interdependent group that has bravely removed itself from modern comforts for a while. About your Mentor
About your Mentor
For Chris, at the heart of his work is a desire to provide moments and experiences where people can see what is on the other side of busy, noisy, task-driven, technology-enabled, coffee-guzzling environments. By stepping out of Modern Life and into emergent, embodied nature experiences, new perspectives can be gained, new inspiration and ideas, or often just a detox from the digital and other toxins. Often help is needed to create the conditions, and Chris is a skilful guide. Chris has been a bushcraft instructor for over 6 years now (for 15 years he was an investment banker in London), and he is a qualified hillwalking guide. He's also engaged in his own forms of mentoring, coaching and guiding, both adults and children. He has convened a consistent men's fire circle in the woods for over 6 years, owns a wood which he manages and serves as the venue for some of the events, is part of a sketch comedy troupe, writes, cartoons... even makes rap songs. He has hiked all his life and s...
- Cost: £350 (equivalent to c.£90 per day) - What's included: food, group equipment, bivvy bags - Not included: Personal kit and travel. An efficient option is to hire a minibus and drive the whole group. I would expect this to cost £50 per person - Travel time is not included in the shown timings for the event. We would aim to begin at 4pm on Day 1 and end around 2pm on Day 4. If we arrange group travel, we will depart from Forest Row, Sussex, early on Day 1 (c.7-8am) and arrive late on Day 4. An itinerary can be created to pick up participants along the way (usually from M25/M40/M6 service stations) - A degree of physical fitness is required, and a mindset to take on the various challenges. Sometimes we will be carrying our equipment on consecutive days, often over rough terrain. By design, there is some struggle - Similarly, this programme requires a degree of social / emotional skill, and an agreed willingness to engage in such challenges, as they come hand in hand with the phys...
