What we'll do
Ever fancied scrambling but don’t know where to start? Then this event is for you! You need a head for heights, this is vital for this adventure. This is a two day event and you must be able to commit to both days as there will be a lot of interest in this event. Accommodation is not included, but I can recommend some places to stay in the area. Day one We will hike up Moel Siabod to introduce you to a short easy scramble at the top This is approximately a six mile walk with spectacular views of Snowdon itself. The scramble is the last bit at the top which will give you an idea of what’s to come on day two. The first day is more of a get to know each other, make new friendships and a short introduction to some scrambling. Day two- Tryfan This is a grade one scramble up Tryfan, a beautiful rugged Rocky Mountain in Snowdonia. One of Snowdonia’s highest peaks sitting at 918 meters (3010 feet) We start at the end of Llyn Ogwen and start hiking up stone steps to where we start to scramble. It will be tough but very exciting and fun! We will take plenty of breaks to hopefully look at the truly amazing views (if we are lucky!) You will need the following kit both days. 18-20 litre rucksack Waterproof jacket and trousers Spare fleece jumper Blister plasters & painkillers Drinking bottle (minimum of 2 litres if it’s hot) Packed lunch & snacks Mobile phone/camera Hat & 2 pairs of gloves (3 if it’s wet!) If you are booking for 2025 an email with itinerary and kit list will be sent out to you in January. I will also create a WhatsApp group.
About your mentor
Jan
Mud, sweat and fun!
My name is Jan Phillips, I am qualified mountain leader, I qualified in 2017 after many years before hiking in North Wales. I used to be a running coach too and had my own running club before the pandemic. I love getting people out in the hills, it is both a great way of keeping fit and blowing away the cobwebs! I grew up on a sheep farm in North Wales and have always loved the great outdoors. My parents were keen hikers too, my first time up Snowdon was at age 8 months in the baby carrier! I also work in the NHS in community dental services specialising in special needs, sedation and urgent care as a dental nurse. I am currently training to be a personal trainer and I run spin classes at my local leisure centre.
