What we'll do
WILD VOICES - BOOTCAMP For tens of thousands of years, the forest has been filled with birdsong, drumming, and the sound of our wild voices. Song and story, poetry and dreams melded with our rich environment to create a deep connection with the natural world, and a deep connection with our communities. But at some point in recent years, we seem to have grown shy… At some point, it was decided that only drummers would drum, only poets should write poetry, and only birds should sing to the wild. It’s time to change our minds. Our Wild Voices Bootcamp will offer a day of creative expression, immersed deep into the world of our ancestors. From poetry to percussion, from singing to mandala-making, Whilst we’ll encourage our young participants to share their wild voices, the focus is on play over performance, with opportunities to explore individually, in small groups, or to share with the group as a whole. It is totally beginner friendly, and will offer a nurturing, supportive environment for even the most shy of learners. Details: The Bootcamp is available to young people between the ages of 8 and 16 The day runs in the stunning woodland setting of Powdermill Woods, Battle, East Sussex, between 10am and 3pm. Participants will be asked to bring: Lunch, and snacks and a reusable water bottle (though drinking water will be available on site) An A4 notebook, preferably blank Writing pens or pencils Coloured pens and pencils (optional). Suitable outdoor gear, including waterproofs, insect repellent, sunscreen and a hat There will be a safe place for participants to leave their bags - so they don’t need to lug it all day.
