This practical workshop will explore ideas for encouraging nature connection and imaginative play. We will show you how to easily incorporate songs, stories, and puppets into your Forest School or local nature play sessions, making the learning experience hands-on and engaging. Learn storytelling techniques, including singing, creating your own story with others, and making a simple puppet. You will leave confident and determined to share the joy of bringing puppets, nature and music into story-making with children.

About your mentors
Where The Fruit Is
Transformation through nature connection
We help leaders and educators rediscover their purpose and realise their potential by coaching and training in and through nature. We love the Forest School approach and share our passion for its loving, inclusive pedagogy in all areas of our work. We recognise the importance of needs-based, trauma-informed practice, threading emotion coaching into all our training offers. We work locally, nationally and internationally, advocating for every child and young person to have regular access to nature-based learning for their well-being and the planet's health. Our Forest School Association (FSA) endorsed trainers work alongside FSA Recognised Providers and the local FSA-affiliated network, building effective learning communities to nurture and encourage our trainees and the wider Forest School community. We collaborate with NGOs and county councils to lead local and national nature-based education projects. We are passionate about helping people of all ages find their purpose and fulfil their potential through nature connection and democratic, strengths-based, person-centred education.
Sarah Lawfull
Leadership Coach, Trainer, and Consultant
With a background in mainstream teaching, early years, SEND, and voluntary youth work, I have witnessed the impact of implementing Forest School's ethos and principles in every area of my life. I set up Where The Fruit Is to raise awareness of Forest School's power to build communities with and improve outcomes for invisible young people, many of whom are neurodivergent, who struggle to access education. I now collaborate with NGOs and county councils to lead local and national nature-based education projects. As co-founder of the Nature Premium campaign, I advocate for all children to have funding for regular nature-based learning experiences from 3 to 18 years as part of their education. I am an FSA-endorsed trainer, Outdoors Thinking Affiliate Trainer, Forest School Association Chair, a Royal Society of Arts Fellow, and a Henley Centre for Coaching and the International Coaching Federation member. My passion is helping people of all ages find their purpose, strengths, and joy to fulfil their potential through playing, thinking and learning in nature.
Lauren Kinnersley
Freelance Forest School Leader
I qualified as a forest school leader in 2006. I also competed Steiner Teacher training in 2012. I am interested in SEND, and finding creative ways to enhance my practice. I have been a Recognised Provider of Forest School with the FSA since 2020. I am passionate about relational storytelling and love using and making puppets. I am about to embark on Play Therapy training to deepen my knowledge of the power of play to change lives.
When you arrive
We will welcome you with a light breakfast before sending you out to explore the beautiful park and consider your relationship to storytelling. In the morning, you will be guided to craft a story with a partner. In the afternoon, you will make a puppet or props to help you take the story back to your setting. Lauren and Sarah will thread storytelling techniques and songs throughout the day. There will be plenty of opportunities to learn with and from the other participants and to share your favourite tales. Our day will end with reflection and a sharing of our stories.
