About your mentors
Street Beat
Dream It, Sweat It, Live It!
Street Beat, a high quality performing arts organisation was established in 2017 with the aim of delivering grass roots engagement projects, offering new experiences, advancing the gifted and talented, tacking obesity, reducing anti-social behaviour, encouraging a healthy lifestyle and engaging boys in dance. Street Beat (SB) aim to provide exceptional opportunities to the communities in North Lincolnshire. We offer training and performance opportunities in dance, drama and singing in addition to other community experiences such as fitness sessions, prop & set building, healthy eating & nutrition, Linedancing, parkour, gymnastics plus much more. We provide sessions for all ages from toddlers to the elderly including intergenerational projects. We work in areas of deprivation such as Crosby and Westcliff in addition to isolated communities such as the Isle of Axholme ensuring accessibility to activity for all. We deliver on a variety of projects from grass roots engagement sessions, disability dance and gifted and talented programmes, working closely with North Lincolnshire Arts Development, On Target and Humberside Police. We are advocates for boy’s dance, with a high percentage of male participants within our sessions. We aim to provide everyone with the opportunity to perform and offer showcase opportunities throughout the year supporting charities and community events in addition to theatre shows and entering national and international competitions. We also aim to provide training and progression into professional practice and recruit locally for our staff and practitioners. Our overall aim is to provide quality experiences where people can upskill, improve fitness, to unite communities and break down barriers to engagement.
Alanah
Learning mentor/performing arts teacher
I became a learning mentor because I’m passionate about helping young people reach their potential and love supporting them through both learning and creativity. I have had years of experience working with children whether that be from doing princess parties and teaching dance to being a supply TA in all different types of primary schools including specialist academies. With a Level 6 Diploma in Professional Musical Theatre and an IDTA Freestyle Teaching qualification, I combine my love of teaching and dance to engage students in fun, meaningful ways. As a Level 1 Learning Mentor, I work with challenging students, but I also lead my own form group delivering literacy lessons, choreograph for the school show, and run the after-school dance club. Outside of school, I continue to teach and perform, using my experience and passion to inspire others.
Carol Carr
Art/Crafts Teacher
I’ve been working with children and young people for 30 plus years, initially as a Youth Worker, then as Careers Adviser and now as Art/Crafts Teacher. I have a passion for creative arts and my hobbies have always included arts and crafts because it allows me to use my imagination and creative skills. I have delivered several arts and crafts sessions where I have taught and encouraged children and young people to participate in the world of arts and crafts. There is nothing more rewarding to me than seeing children and young people engaging in creative art and crafts activities using their creativity and imagination and most of all, having fun !
