What we'll do
Times: 10am to 3.30pm (extended day option: 9.30 drop off and 4pm collection = additional £5) Prices: 1 day = £45 , 2 days = £80, NB clay modelling day +£5 materials charge Concession rates are available for eligible families. Enquiries to lara@pressplayfilms.co.uk Venue: Linklaker Pavilion (the Jolly Room), Railway Ln, Lewes BN7 2FG (wheelchair accessible) Workshops run over 2 days. The days are designed to work well as stand alone days or as a package. Children involved will be credited in the final films as director/producer, photographer, editor, set designer etc. (according to which elements of the course they complete). Children work in pairs to produce their animations and I email a link to copies of all films the day after the course. Monday Oct 27th: Day 1 - Lego Animation ages 7 to 14 This Lego mini project is a chance for children who have already dabbled with Lego and /or animation technology to extend their skills and further understand how to structure films. We will watch some classic stop-motion animations and explore how to convey stories and what makes a compelling animation. Children will then briefly storyboard ideas for a spooky-themed Lego animation. Children will be shown how to model figures and animation sets using Lego, in preparation for photographing and editing their animations. The focus will be on creating perhaps 2 or 3 scenes to use in the final animation. Children then learn how to photograph a Lego animation and get to work! Once all photography is completed children will record and add sounds and voice-overs (if they have time) to their animations. They can also add titles, credits and music. By the end children will have completed a Lego stop motion animation to be proud of. Tuesday Oct 23rd: day 2: Clay model making, ages 8 to 15 Children will learn what makes a clay model easy to animate, and discover the different kinds of movements that animation clay naturally suits. We will then make clay models using wire armatures, putty and other materials. If time allows children can also produce a variety of facial expressions. After lunch children will animate their characters, focusing on how to achieve natural character movement and how to evoke personality through movement. By the end of the day children will have produced a professional claymation character to take home and use in further animations and will have recorded a sequence animation scenes using their character. Please note this workshop has an additional £5 charge for materials. Additional (optional) activity for both days For children who finish their projects early, we have the option to make some flipbook animations using flip books/post-its, colours and animation software. On both days, we have a lunch break and (providing weather is nice) a brief walk around the nature reserve at the Railway Land for fresh air! Payment to be made at point of check out to secure the booking. These workshops are not FREE of charge but we do offer concession rates to families needing support with payment.
