What we'll do
Join Adoption East Midlands for a creative writing workshop exploring the theme of Home and Belonging at The Acre Young People’s Centre on Saturday 9th May, 11am–3pm. Lunch will be provided ? This session is a welcoming, relaxed space for young people aged 11-18years who enjoy writing, storytelling, poetry or spoken word—or for those who simply want to try something new. You don’t need to be an experienced writer to take part, just bring your ideas, imagination, and your voice. Together, we will explore big questions like: What makes a home? Where do we feel we belong? What shapes our identity, memories, and sense of connection? Through creative activities, discussion, and guided writing prompts, you’ll have the chance to develop your own piece of work in a style that suits you—whether that’s poetry, short fiction, or spoken word. This workshop is part of a wider creative writing project that celebrates the voices and experiences of young people across the East Midlands. After the session, participants will have the opportunity to submit their work for inclusion in an online creative writing collection hosted by Adoption East Midlands. Selected writers will also be invited to take part in an online launch event in June, where they can share or perform their work alongside other young creatives. In addition, a number of pieces will be chosen for inclusion in a printed publication titled The Book of Belonging, which will be professionally illustrated and launched at the Nottingham Poetry Festival. This is a chance not only to write, but to be heard, celebrated, and published. It’s about expressing your story in your own words and connecting with others through creativity. All materials will be provided, and a supportive environment will be created throughout the day. Whether you come with a clear idea or just curiosity, you are welcome.
