What we'll do
We are excited to offer a film school for February half term in association with Brighton Dome and Hanover Community Centre. For ages 12+, young people will be using their smartphones to film, edit, and share their work. They will work at Brighton Dome and Hanover Community Centre, and learn about film acting, directing, screen writing, filming and editing, before sharing their work on the third day. Ages 7- 11 will also learn about film acting and how that differs, screenwriting, directing, and storyboarding. This will be based solely at Hanover Community Centre. We hope this will provide some creative inspiration as well as childcare support in the dark cold month of February. Please provide lunch, snacks, and water on each of the days. *Free / Pay-What-You-Can Places* We have limited funds for our free places and hope they continue for those most in need of them. If you do not need a free place in order for your child to attend but the below criteria still applies, we ask you to take up a pay-what-you-can place. Please get in touch to discuss this. Our free/pay-what-you-can criteria: - Disability Living Allowance (parent/carer/child/young person) - The child/young person is a Young Carer - The child/young person is on the local authority register as Looked After - Household income of £26,300 or less Please get in touch if one or more of the above applies to you and we will send you a link to book through.
About your mentor
ThirdSpace Theatre
Open youth company for performers in Sussex
ThirdSpace is Brighton's young people theatre company, providing weekly acting classes for children, teenagers and young adults. We make artistically ambitious, youth-led award-winning contemporary theatre which is co-created with young people. Young people are treated as artists in training, developing their skills to a professional level. They are fully immersed in the real world of an ensemble theatre company, working on productions from start to finish, including behind the scenes, and make work which speaks to them and their experiences, exploring ideas they find challenging or exciting. Classes available for 6 - 25 years old across the city & throughout the week. Free taster sessions available. Free and concession places available. "A fantastic creative environment that let’s the children discover and develop their own sense of self." (Parent feedback) Headed by award winning director Tanushka Marah, ThirdSpace have co-created and performed shows that directly engage with young people their age, making work that platforms young voices and is politically engaging. They most recently appeared in and was commissioned by Brighton Festival 2023 with Bakkhai, a sell-out hit performed on the grounds of the Crew Club and the hills of the South Downs.
